‘The Why’ with Kayla White, LPC, CCTP

We’re back with another ‘The Why’ Series! I’m constantly amazed by how incredible people are within our own community and this individual we are highlighting today is no different.

Last week we sat down and met with Kayla White, LPC, CCTP at her office located off of Preston in Frisco, Texas. Upon first impression this was not your typical bland and overly formal counseling office as the vibrant colors throughout the space gave off a warm and welcoming vibe. This positive atmosphere is something that I personally took note of, having been to many isolated counseling offices when I was younger. Every detail really does matter when working through tough topics and Kayla White, LPC, CCTP certainly has set up the space for success.

These tough topics are exactly what Kayla White, LPC, CCTP specializes in, as she is not only a Licensed Professional Counselor but also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Using EMDR therapy she is able to help people reprocess distressing memories and lessen the fear and anxiety they may feel about them. (For more information about EMDR Therapy click here.) This was particularly interesting to me as it wasn’t the tired old phrase of “and how does that make you feel?” type of approach. While openly talking through certain topics can definitely be helpful, for more traumatic experiences reprocessing the memories can be a major step in the right direction.

Having also been through years of therapy herself, Kayla White, LPC, CCTP, knows first hand the power of therapy and hopes to break any negative stereotype that may be associated with it.

“I think it’s important for mental health professionals to be easily accessible because reaching out for help can be scary, intimidating, and confusing. It’s always been my intention to strive to create a safe and comfortable space for my clients to just be themselves and process their most vulnerable emotions and experiences.” – Kayla White, LPC, CCTP.

In many cases, the hardest part about getting help is taking that first step – however, with Kayla White, LPC, CCTP you’re not alone. She’ll be right there with you the whole way.

The first step to anything can be a frightening one, especially something as big as moving states and starting fresh in a new place! Having moved to Texas in 2014 from West Virginia to attend the University of North Texas, she understands first hand how difficult it is to move to a new area where you don’t have a rooted support system and must start building those relationships all over again. With all of the added pressures of today’s society, that loneliness can at times feel extremely overwhelming. And if there is one takeaway you get from this post know this: you are not alone and there is always hope.

Kayla White, LPC, CCTP believes in the healing power of therapy and had seen lives, including her own, turned around when people get the help they need.. She stated, “We all need additional support sometimes that the people closest to us may not be able to give us.” This was such a good reminder that there are moments in our life where we do need to seek a professional to help get us back on the right path and allows for our friends and family to be the support system throughout the process.

Life has a way of throwing us curve balls that we aren’t always prepared for, and the bottom line is – it’s more than okay to ask for help when you need it.
